The statue of Aideen in Aideen's Plaza

Aideen is, according to the Legend of Jorvik, the girl who brought life to the island. She is worshipped by the Druids and inhabitants of Jorvik alike, and the creator of the Soul Riders.

Personality[]

As a mythical being, not much is known about Aideen. She is described as someone full of “love and light”, a kind soul who is loyal to Jorvik.

Prior to Star Stable Online[]

Before Aideen arrived in Jorvik, it was said to be a “lifeless rock in the middle of a dark and cold ocean”. Emerging from a fallen star, Aideen and her horse rode on the surface of the ocean onto the island, with her carrying a candle in her right hand. Upon reaching the middle of the island, she placed the candle down, and life and light came to the island. In other variations of the Legend of Jorvik, the candle is replaced by a harp, which she played to bring life to the island.

In her time on Jorvik, Aideen used her light to create the Primeval Trees. According to legend, when one of the trees had lost its root connections, she repaired the damage by using the music of her harp while riding across the sea. At some point, Aideen came to the Wildwoods and planted the Sentinel Tree.

Because Aideen was not from this world, her spirit could not endure on Jorvik. When her time had come, she sacrificed herself by splitting her soul into two pieces. One went to the horses of the island while the other went to the humans, and when the two came together, their love would be stronger than anything. She dissolved into the essence of the island and into the nature of Jorvik.

Star Stable Online[]

Aideen hasn't been seen in person, but she was mentioned several times by Fripp and the people who worship her or seek her guidance in times of need.

When Lisa and the Player repay their debt for the Sleeping Widow's help, the tree asks for their help in reconnecting with other trees. With Aideen's harp, the duo discovered that the feat was not a legend - but real.

Etymology[]

Aideen is an Irish name derived from the mythological figure Ètaín, a sun goddess and heroine of the tale “The Wooing of Ètaín”. The name means “little fire”, fitting Aideen’s legend of her bringing light to the island.

Trivia[]

  • Aideen’s Harp can be found at the Jorvik City Museum, and cannot be kept by the Keepers of Aideen or the player. Her harp also adorns the national flag of Jorvik.
  • According to the Soul Riders, the Lightning Circle represents her judgement, the Moon Circle represents her wisdom, the Star Circle represents her heart, and the Sun Circle represents her shield.
